Cinderella's Valuable Lesson

Cinderella's Valuable Lesson

Once upon a time, fairy tales of gallant Knights, swords stuck in stone and lost glass slippers were magically awakened by my love of books, VHS videos and T.V. As a young girl, I would dream of meeting Cinderella and talking to all her animal friends. My Dad’s go-to line growing up used to be, “When I win the lottery, we’re all going to Disneyland”. The only problem? Our reality didn’t match the dream and it would take a lottery win or getting into a lot of debt to pull that off. So, although I hoped it would happen, I was intuitive enough to know that it was only a dream to hold onto and cherish. Some dreams are made for that purpose. Staying preserved in the original packaging, ‘Mint in the box’, like Stinky Pete in Toy Story 2. Some dreams are given to us as a safe haven to ponder about when the proverbal hits the fan. Acting as a comfort blanket, a soothing daydream to ponder on bad days about what I could be doing if I was there, in Disneyland, right now? Who I would be with and what could I see, do and be? As life goes on some dreams fade and other stay locked away in our hearts, where the magic is worth holding onto. I think you can probably guess, mine? It stayed burning brightly.  So, what happened to my dream, I hear you ask? Well, just like 5000-1, Leicester City F.C. becoming Premier League Champions in 2015, seemed to be an impossibility, my dreams did come true after all. In 2007, with lots of working, planning and pound jars to boot, I made my ‘little girl dream’ a reality. It was more than I ever imagined. I really don’t have the words to express how I felt walking along Main Street and seeing the iconic castle for the first time. I'm sure my tears told a better story. I got to share that moment with my little Sister, Samantha. Now, a dream felt is one thing, a dream actualised is another, but a dream shared is complete magic. Whatever I dream of these days, I know that the living of it far outweighs the dreaming of it. So with every dream I have, I make a plan, work hard, take action and make it a reality. This Cinderella has learnt her lesson and I'm safe in the knowledge that, my dreams will live happily ever after - after all.
